OHUfx Unites NZ Talent for Ti West’s Trilogy

OHUfx is proud to have delivered over 440 shots for "MaXXXine" with their trusted partners, including Fathom, 808 Ltd, Masters of Reality, and the talented concept artist Paul Tobin. As the VFX showrunner across the entire trilogy—"X," "Pearl," and "MaXXXine"—OHUfx has provided over 800 VFX shots in total, encompassing supervision, conforms, and VFX pulls.

Frank Rueter and Kara Vandeleur at OHUfx have skillfully guided all three projects from script to screen, providing VFX shot estimates to secure funding from A24, being on set for the VFX shots, and working with their collaborators to deliver the films over four years. They were delighted to once again deliver outstanding work for Ti West and his producers, Jacob Jaffke and Peter Phok, making this trilogy a thrilling journey from script to screen.

The collaboration between Wellington and Auckland on the VFX and SFX for the trilogy has been remarkable. Under the supervision of Frank and Kara from OHUfx, Scott Chambers and his team at 808 executed over 120 shots, while Caleb Thompson at Masters of Reality also completed over 120 shots for ‘MaXXXine.’ Fathom VFX contributed nearly all the CG across the entire trilogy, including the Hollywood sign, helicopter, plane, Houston build, and cinema facades. Paul Tobin assisted with the warscape backdrop for the ‘Pearl’ dance scene and painted the murals in the parking lot as MaXXXine drives into the Landing Strip. Ben Wootten, who provided concept work for "X" and "Pearl," as well as Joaquin Loyzaga & Sam Cotter from Scale Studios, the creators of the iconic SFX alligator for both films!
