VFXG Member Spotlight: Award-Winning VFX Supervisor Thrain Shadbolt Joins Cause and FX

The VFX Guild is proud to celebrate the achievements of one of our own, Thrain Shadbolt, as he takes on an exciting new role at Cause and FX, based in Auckland, New Zealand. With a storied career spanning decades, Thrain is a name synonymous with excellence in visual effects.

A veteran of Wētā FX (formerly Wētā Digital), Thrain’s contributions to iconic projects like Avatar, Planet of the Apes, and major Marvel and DC films such as The Avengers, Ironman 3, and Shazam: Fury of the Gods have solidified his place as one of the industry’s top creative talents.

Joining Cause and FX in February 2025, Thrain will play a pivotal role in shaping the studio’s vision as it embarks on a dynamic year ahead, with multiple high-profile international projects in development. Known for his ability to bring imaginative worlds to life and tackle creative challenges, Thrain’s expertise will further elevate the studio’s reputation for delivering world-class visual effects.
